S1 Football Success

The S1 U13 football team celebrated their success after winning the Green Final Trophy 5-1 against Bucksburn Academy. This is a great achievement by all the pupils who were a credit to the school, showing determination and confidence as a team as well as playing in a fair and competitive manner. This is the first time in ten years a football team has won a trophy and the last time Bridge of Don won this trophy was back in 1980. With the season now finished we look forward to the team playing again as U14’s in the S2 competitions in August. Well done to all players!

Bridge of Don Academy Free Breakfast Club

The Bridge of Don Academy Free Breakfast Club continues to grow since its launch last year.  The club is FREE to any pupil and is open every morning in GP2 from 8am until registration.  Hunger is a barrier for pupils to concentrate and learn effectively in school so the breakfast club aims to eliminate this through this free offering. All pupils are welcome to drop in for some toast, cereal, fruit, porridge or fruit juice to start their day with a good nutritious breakfast in a safe, friendly environment.

The club is gratefully supported by Tesco and FareShare who donate unsold bakery items every week which has resulted in 266kg of food that would have gone to waste being used within the breakfast club.  The breakfast club is another step the school is taking in reducing the poverty related attainment gap and providing families and pupils ways to poverty-proof the school day.  Whilst also addressing several sustainable development goals including; Number 2 – Zero Hunger, Number 3 – Good Health and Well-being and Number 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Bridge of Don Academy Comfort Closet

As part of Bridge of Don Academy’s drive to close the poverty related attainment gap and increase the health and well-being of all pupils the school have introduced free comfort closets.  Each Guidance teacher, along with the school office have a range of deodorants, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and shower gels for any pupil to collect free if they feel they need.  Along with free sanitary products provided by Aberdeen City Council any pupil can approach the school office or guidance teacher and ask for any of the items should they need.   We look forward to pupils using this resource responsibly in the schools drive to bring equity to the school day.
