Book Week Scotland Author Visit

We started our Book Week Scotland celebrations by inviting author Barbara Henderson into school. Barbara was here to talk to four S1 classes about her eco-thriller Wilderness Wars. The novel asks the question: what if nature fights back? and is a fast-paced adventure story which explores our relationship with nature. Barbara told us about the difficulty in getting published, the inspiration behind the book, read the opening chapter and involved pupils in some very lively interactive challenges. It was a really entertaining session. Feedback from pupils has been extremely positive

Book Week Scotland at Bridge of Don

The Library  joined the national celebration of books and reading during Book Week Scotland (19-26 November)

We ran a favourite author competition and received a record number of entries from all years. The most popular authors with S1-S3 pupils were Roald Dahl,  Michael Morpurgo, J K Rowling and David Walliams. Senior pupils choices were more varied

Teachers were given posters to display on their classroom doors with details of what they were currently reading and watching.

On Wednesday lunchtime Library Club became a DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) zone – no computers/chrome books /phones  allowed!

Thursday lunchtime saw the return of our  annual  Big Book House Quiz with Mr Haggarty once again taking on the role of quiz master.  It was a closely fought contest with two teams Dumbledore’s Army and The Blads 3.0 tying for top spot.
