The Bridge of Don Academy Free Breakfast Club continues to grow since its launch last year. The club is FREE to any pupil and is open every morning in GP2 from 8am until registration. Hunger is a barrier for pupils to concentrate and learn effectively in school so the breakfast club aims to eliminate this through this free offering. All pupils are welcome to drop in for some toast, cereal, fruit, porridge or fruit juice to start their day with a good nutritious breakfast in a safe, friendly environment.
The club is gratefully supported by Tesco and FareShare who donate unsold bakery items every week which has resulted in 266kg of food that would have gone to waste being used within the breakfast club. The breakfast club is another step the school is taking in reducing the poverty related attainment gap and providing families and pupils ways to poverty-proof the school day. Whilst also addressing several sustainable development goals including; Number 2 – Zero Hunger, Number 3 – Good Health and Well-being and Number 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.
