Once again Bridge of Don Academy has been offered the opportunity to take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camps this summer. The camps are fully funded by the local rotary and are an opportunity for 15-18 year olds to develop their sporting and leadership skills.
Successful candidates complete a week long programme at Abernethy Outdoor Centre designed to challenge them both physically and mentally. Challenges include canoeing, hill walking, map reading, mountain biking, rock climbing and gorge walking. The candidates are also given lots of opportunity to lead activities and work as part of a team to build their team working and interpersonal skills. This is supported by motivational and inspirational talks from guest speakers through out the week.
In total, 14 pupils applied to take part in this year’s course, with 11 successfully achieving interviews with the rotary selection committee. The RYLA representatives were very impressed with the high standard of interviews from all of the pupils involved and they found it very difficult to select their final candidates. In the end, the spaces were awarded to Jason Woods (4F) and Feranmi Thomas (4F). Louis Owusu-Afriyie (4F) was selected as a reserve should a space become available. The team felt convinced that these pupils would represent both the rotary and Bridge of Don Academy well.
