Education Maintenance Allowance

An Education Maintenance Allowance is a payment of £30 per week, paid directly into a student’s bank account, if they stay on in school, college or in home-education after their official school leaving age. EMAs are normally assessed on gross taxable household income for the period April 2017 – March 2018 and is paid in addition to other support and benefits provided by the Government.

Pupils get on their bikes at Bridge of Don Academy

Bridge of Don Academy and Active Schools have been selected to receive funding from the UK sustainable transport charity, Sustrans as well as an additional £1,500 from the Youth Activities Small Grants Fund.

The money received has allowed the school to invest in 10 new bike lockers and cycle stands as well and 28 new scooters. On top of this, 40 helmets were purchased through the Cycle Scotland Cycle Friendly School Award.

As part of Year of Young People 2018, NHS Grampian Youth Forum and partners, which include Police Scotland’s North East Division, are delivering four exciting and interactive events at Aberdeen Arts Centre this summer, aimed at young people (aged between 12 to 26 years) from across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

Places have to be booked via Eventbrite, but tickets are free and refreshments will be provided.  For those who can’t attend in person, all four events will be live streamed on Twitter from @SHC_G  #YoYPAbz
