Course Choice – Further information

Course Choice – 2017-18

This is a really important time of year where many of our youngsters are thinking about their future career and thinking about their pathways.  They will be taking time to consider their options and which ones are the best for them.  Pupils in S3 -5 are being introduced to course choice in assembly and in PSE, where they have been provided with a course choice sheet.  They also have access to the course choice booklet on Google Classroom.

Parents/Guardians can also access the booklet and form by using the following links:

There are many different options for our pupils and you may have questions or queries about these.  There are a couple of opportunities for you to find out further information.  Firstly, we are offering parents the chance to come to a talk about course choice information at the Careers Evening on Tuesday 21 February from 7 pm – 9 pm.  There are 4 talks at different times at which you can attend.  Pupils can indicate your interest on the Google Form which they have access to.

In addition to this two information events for pupils and parents have now been arranged.  These events are designed to allow genuinely interested pupils and their parents the opportunity to come along to the relevant College campus to see where course delivery will take place, speak to curriculum staff and have a chance to ask any questions they may have before completing their applications.

Tuesday 7th March – Aberdeen City Campus – 6.15pm – 8pm

To confirm attendance at this event pupils, their parents and school staff should register using this link:

Thursday 9th March – Fraserburgh Campus – 6.15pm – 8pm

Again, to confirm attendance pupils and parents should register using this link:

For ease of reference, the application form for FA’s can be located at the link below:

Careers Evening – Tuesday 21 February

Careers Evening – Tuesday 21 February

All pupils will be been given a leaflet with a reply slip to return to school with information about our Careers Evening.   For health and safety reasons, it is essential that pupils return this slip to the school office if they are attending the Careers Evening.  They are also being given the opportunity to sign up for the event in school either in PSE or study.  We would ask you to encourage your child to take advantage of a great resource and sign up for the stalls, talks and mock interviews available to them.

The idea behind the Careers Evening is to give young people more information about jobs and careers that may be available in the local area and a chance to talk to people working in those fields.

We hope that this event will give our pupils information and an insight into not only the careers they might want to pursue but also what they will have to do in the next few months or years to prepare themselves more fully for the future.

We would like parents to attend so that you can also gather information which will help you to support your son/ daughter as they make the decisions which will have so much impact on their future.

We have invited local individuals, companies and organisations to provide displays of information about possible jobs or careers in their particular field.  Some may have leaflets you can take away with you.  Some have also agreed to have personnel present to and answer any questions you may have about:

  • Job opportunities
  • Pay and benefits
  • Training and qualifications required
  • Useful subjects to study at school
  • What other skills and qualities would be useful.

There will also be a number of talks taking place which pupils can sign up for on Google Forms at the following link:

This will provide them with first hand information about different careers, opportunities and help in certain areas.

Heads of House and Senior Management will also be in attendance to help you answer any questions you may have about the course choice procedures as well as discussing the right choices for your son/daughter.

Please click on the following link to find out which businesses and organisation will be attending the event.  Business Attending 2016-17

There are also a number of talks taking place throughout the night which we would encourage people to sign up for.  This can be done on the google classroom link.  Click the following link to find out what is available.  Career Talks 2016-17

Pupils also have the great opportunity of taking part in a mock interview.  This allows them to get a real life experience of going through an interview with someone from industry.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact Mrs J Cruickshank, Depute Head Teacher on 01224 707583.

Oxford and Cambridge S6 Interviews Information Sessions Scotland 2016

A seminar is being held at the University of Aberdeen for S6 pupils who are considering making an application to the University of Oxford or University of Cambridge. See the attached document for more information on how to apply for a place on the seminar but you must let your Head of House know if you decide to go, so that any UCAS applications for Oxford and Cambridge can be prepared and submitted before the deadline of Friday 7 October. This is considerably earlier than the deadline for other universities, including those in Scotland.
